An Unexpected Outcome

Posted on by COYFC

Sometimes the unexpected is what God intended all along.

Ministry leader Sarah Sanz recently hosted a monthly hang out with four junior high girls – Adela, Chloe, Belle and Marcie. Adela was new but the other girls had been involved with Campus Life. They ate snacks, played games and made encouragement cards for a local senior living facility. The goal was simply to build relationships and show the girls love and acceptance.

While having fun and talking about silly things, Chloe turned to Sarah out of the blue and said, “You know, I’ve never accepted Christ.” Then Adela said, “I haven’t either!”

This put everything on pause as Sarah and the other two girls, who were already believers, helped explain God’s story of redemption through Jesus. And when asked if they understood Chloe and Adela said they did, and even wanted to pray right then. During a time of uplifting prayer together Belle, who had accepted Jesus before, prayed for God’s forgiveness for walking away recently and said she wanted to be close to Him again.  It was an awesome spiritual time, and none of it was planned!

After the prayer time, the girls finished up 36 notes of encouragement and took them to the senior facility to deliver them in person. Adela’s grandmother actually lives there, and was the first person they saw when they walked through the front door! Right away Adela told her about accepting Christ – to her grandmother’s delight.

Who could have guessed how this hangout time would have turned out?

Two new believers in Christ. Adult volunteers who were blessed to have a front row seat to God’s leading.

And a great reminder to always be ready to share His Good News.

“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”      (1 Peter 3:15)
